Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some commonly asked questions; as always, please feel free to email me if you have any additional questions.

Q: Now that I've finished writing my book, what do I do next?

A: Get a reliable manuscript evaluation. This will help you identify and address any immediate issues and help you formulate your plan and a preliminary marketing strategy.

Q: Do I need an editor or do I need a proofreader?

A: The proofreading stage follows the editing stage and is meant to find minor errors and omissions and will not address larger issues. A good editor will first identify any problem areas and recommend ways to fix these.

Q: I believe that I have written the next Great Canadian Novel, does it matter how long it is?

A: Books that are overly long and extended are not nearly as marketable as those of more moderate length. Tailor the length to both the target audience and to the subject matter. Also, research some similar books that have made it to publication.

Q: I need my book edited ASAP—how quickly can the work be done?

A. There is no pat answer to this question, and much depends on how polished the writing is and how well your book is planned and constructed. Even so, beware of anyone who claims they can turn it around in an unrealistically short amount of time.
